LCCI president Mian Misbahur Rehman, senior vice president Sohail Lashari and vice president Sheikh Mohammad Arshad on Wednesday said that at a time when the oil prices at international level were showing a downward trend, the increase would create a negative impact for the present government, which was striving to make the atmosphere business friendly and above all it would be very difficult for the Pakistani products to compete in international market.
They said that the recent increase in the prices of petroleum products would also hit the exports hard, as the cost of production would automatically go up. They urged the government to devise some other mechanism for finalising the prices of petroleum products, as the Oil Companies Advisory Committee (OCAC) has failed to come up to the expectations of masses.
Mian Misbah said that the raise would also affect the poor of this country very badly. He added that the people are waiting for some relief from the government but it actually has done otherwise.
Pakistan Kissan Movement
Terming increase in petroleum prices as unjustifiable, Pakistan Kissan Movement (PKM) has said the decision would cause a lot of hardships for the farming community.
In a press statement here on Wednesday, Chaudhry Hanif Gujjar, Secretary General PKM said that the government should take necessary steps to resolve the problems being faced by sugarcane growers instead of burdening them through anti-people steps.
